Noreen O’Connor
Senior Swim Instructor
10 Years of Swim Instruction Experience
“The greatest gift I receive as an instructor is the look on my students’ faces when they realize their accomplishments in the water after hard work and practice. When they let go of their fear and are ready to enjoy swimming for the sheer pleasure of being in the water, it’s truly rewarding.”
Matt Ruf
Senior Swim Instructor
17 Years of Swim Instruction Experience
Matt joins our team with 21 years of experience as a Swim Instructor–brings a very structured but energetic approach to his lessons. He began Swimming at a very young age (3 years old) and joined a local Swim Team in his home town of Edison at 5 years of age. After many years of competitive swimming, Matthew eventually became a Lifeguard and a Swim Instructor at the Jewish Community Center of Middlesex County. There, he was promoted to the Assistant Aquatics Director and was responsible for designing the curriculum of the Swim Program for children and adults, and he trained incoming Instructors.
Matthew’s Resume is extensive but, most importantly, he teaches kids to love and respect the water. Your children will leave each lesson learning the skills not just to survive in the pool, but to thrive–the way Matt learned.
Dave Ripple
Senior Swim Instructor
5 Years of Swim Instruction Experience
Dave has had a passion for swimming for most of his life, swimming competitively from age six through high school. While he enjoyed giving informal swim lessons through most of his life, Dave recently received his formal swim instructor certification as a Water Safety Instructor by the American Red Cross. In his prior role as Aquatics Director at Cambridge Club of Aberdeen, Dave was responsible for managing safe pool operations with the added pleasure of providing group swim and water safety lessons for its summer day camp, with ages ranging from three to 12. Additionally, Dave provided one-on-one swim lessons to both children and adults.
“Where do I get my passion to teach swimming? It’s simply from the immeasurable joy that I share with a child or adult as they advance from uncertainty and fear to competence, confidence and mastery in the water.”
Brian Kilpatrick
Senior Swim Instructor
30 Years of Swim Instruction Experience
Brian is a master swim instructor – and we’re honored to have Mr. Brian run the swim program at Monmouth Squash Club & Swim School. He has taught swimming for over 30 years, instructing and holding various management positions at locations including the Red Bank YMCA (14 years), Ocean County (4 years), Old Bridge YMCA (3 years), and the Raritan Valley YMCA (2 years). In addition to teaching many hundreds of children and adults how to swim, he has trained swim instructors, taught American Red Cross Water Safety, instructed water fitness, and coached multiple swim teams.
“This is the Jersey Shore – we’re surrounded by water: the ocean, rivers, and so many backyard pools. Knowing how to swim and understanding proper water safety are absolutely essential for both children and adults. Sadly, drowning is still one of the most common causes of accidental death in children, and this tragedy is preventable. Swimming is the only sport which can save your child’s life. The younger that children know how to swim and basic water safety, the better!”
“I have a strong belief in “Where there’s a Will, there’s a Way”. I am passionate about helping kids and adults overcome fear and become safe in the water! It is an absolute necessity! I love teaching not only beginner level but advanced stroke development for the seasoned swimmer as well.”
